feel the sun on your face

as you can probably tell i've been very excited this past weekend about the return of the sun. we're getting ready to experience like a week of rain, but i have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the sun again and not freezing to death while being outside. it's so easy to take things like this for granted. yesterday at work i got to take my patient outside on the roof to the play deck. it was beautiful and sunny and peaceful and she hadn't been outside since november. it did so much to lift her spirits. getting to experience that with her lifted mine. i feel like i've been in a cave when i am at work all day for 13 hours, but i can't imagine not being outside to feel the wind and sun on your face for more than 4 months. once again, i'm reminded by these precious kids not to take the little things in life for granted.

thoughts

  • it snowed again. yay. note the sarcasm.
  • right about now i'm wondering why i thought it was a good idea to take 4 college classes (full time) while working full time ... ???
  • oh yeah, so i can be done in may. like done done. please tell me it will be worth it.
  • i've been a bit stressed lately. just one of those times i guess.
  • tomorrow is our last sunday at rc3 with only 1 service. march 7 - 2 services! i'm so proud of brandon and pastor paul and jeff and all the others who've been working so hard to make this happen. it is an honor to be a part of river's crossing. God is doing amazing things.
  • now don't judge me for this, but i am really looking forward to the bachelor finale monday night. i know, i know. but i get sucked in every year, and let's be honest, i know i'm not the only one ...
  • sorry i don't have much to blog about, but there really isn't room for much other than school or work or church right now. except my love of wintertime. and the bachelor of course. i'm on brain overload, and i would pay good money to see some sunshine or green grass.

i love peds, pt 4

only in a children's hospital will your 7-yr old patient surprise you by spraying you and the doctor with silly string! i spent forever getting it out of my hair!

i love it :)

budget made easy

i'm an organizing, budgeting freak. i think mint.com was made fore me, lol. this is such a good website. it is a place that organizes all your spending, saving, i.e your budget, in a clean, simple, safe and free way online. no more adding up receipts, complicated spreadsheets, or having your personal info. on random sheets of paper. it's so easy. plus, it lets you know exactly what you've spent so far in each of your budget categories each month. i love love love it. you should try it out. i'm super excited about it; can you tell? :) oh, and it has an iphone app.

don't just take it from me. a pastor's wife i greatly respect and admire, holly furtick uses it too.

ps - check out pastor jeff's message this past week in our current series, the space between, for more on managing your finances God's way here.

i love peds, pt 3

a 3-yr old patient of mine was having a little bit of trouble. it had been a while since he had gone #1 (common i work at a children's hospital), and so he proceeded to tell his parents and the doctor that he needed an ultrasound. well the doctor agreed with his plan and ordered an ultrasound so see the amount of urine in his bladder. shortly before the ultrasound tech arrived, he peed. when she came into the room he politely declined, saying "no thank you, i don't need an ultrasound anymore".

it is so sad that 3-yr olds even know what ultrasounds are among other hospital terminology, but the great thing about peds is kids are still so sweet an innocent and happy throughout the worst time in their lives. they have such amazing little spirits that never cease to lift mine.

i love peds, pt 2

i've been taking care of this adorable 4-year old boy lately who is very sick. his family has been through more than you could imagine. the other night his father and i were talking about some medications and things with his wonder pets dvd playing in the background, when he let out a huge, exasperated sigh and said, "will somebody just please come lay down with me?"

as if he didn't even care who it was. so sweet :)
