the weekend

i'm not doing great with this blogging thing am i?

i've been working like crazy at children's lately so i could go out of town this weekend.  as i type, i'm in north carolina visiting my family.  it is so good to see them and be at "home".  i have missed these mountains!  i wish brandon could have joined me, but he's still in ohio.  he'll be helping out the river's crossing service project tomorrow, mowing people's lawns for free.  he'll also be leading worship on sunday, and he'll be doing a great job might i add.  if you're in the area, don't miss it!  we're meeting at king's elementary for the summer.

plans for tomorrow include mani/pedi with mom and grandma, time spent with extended family, maybe some shopping, and a wedding shower for my little brother and his fiance gini.  it's going to be a great weekend!  pics to come ...

flowers

so cathy, you would be proud.  these are some pretty pink flowers (i have no clue what they are) that i have managed to keep alive and grow for 2 months!  they are much bigger too than when i first brought them home from lowes.  for me, that is a pretty big accomplishment :)

some of my favorite things

i couldn't help humming the tune from "the sound of music" while compiling this list ... :)
  • method hand wash - in sweet water or water flower.  this soap is seriously the only kind i buy.  no matter how many times i wash my hands, they never get dry.  it smells amazing, does it's job, and is good for the environment and the user.  i love all method's products, but the soap is my favorite.
  • the kitchenaid artisan stand mixer - my wonderful in-laws, brian and cathy, got me this for christmas a couple of years ago.  let me just tell you, it is amazing.  you can throw your ingredients in, pull a little lever, and continue cleaning up or whatever you need to do while it mixes for you!  enough said.  mine's in onyx black.
  • the vera bradley vera bag - i saved up during college and bought this bag.  it's my favorite.  sturdy, roomy, and very cute.  i toted around lots of heavy nursing school books in that thing!  i got mine in my favorite pattern - java blue.
  • my iphone - now granted, i don't have the newest one and i haven't had it long, but it really makes no difference.  this thing is awesome.  i can twitter, email, text, talk, look up recipes, the weather, directions, keep track of food/exercise, look up movie times, make a shopping list, take pictures, listen to the rain and a million other things.  i am telling you, this thing rocks.  thanks dad for giving it to me!
  • keurig coffee maker - oh my goodness.  i am in love with this thing.  our's is the special edition one.  it looks super cool, makes a steaming cup of coffee in about 1 minute, is ready all the time, turns on and off without me pushing a button, and the best part is - no mess to clean up!  just take out the k-cup and throw it away.  the k-cups come in just about any kind of coffee, tea, or hot cocoa you could imagine.  brandon will roll his eyes and tell you, i seriously love this thing.
  • wnc magazine - i got this subscription for christmas for the past couple of years from cathy.  it's a magazine that is all about western north carolina - it's environment, culture, art, people, food, etc.  especially now that i live in ohio, it's so nice to read and see home once in a while.
so, anyone agree with me?  what are some of your favorite products?

still here

so for the record, i'm sorry for blogging so little lately.  i just can't think of anything to blog about.  i've just been working, doing homework for my summer online classes, and hanging out with friends.  i'm going to try to do better though!  just wanted you to know i'm still here, if anyone actually reads this anyway ... lol

observations

  • got to go on a date tonight with my hubby - courtesy of our awesome church - river's crossing.  as part of our "we want a new marriage" series, the church gave each couple that attended all 5 sundays a $40 gift card to the restaurant of their choice (out of 5 choices).  they even gave those with kids babysitting money.  we went to bravo, then to a movie and a little shopping at bed bath and beyond.  great night.
  • i am absolutely loving my new keurig special edition coffee maker.  holy cow, how did i go without this thing for so long?!  seriously, it's just lovely.  thank you brandon!
  • i worked last night.  my first night shift after a month of days.  it kind of had me off a little.  i just couldn't seem to get in the groove of things.  i made it though, and thankfully i don't have to go back until friday and saturday night.
  • my little brother moved out this weekend.  he's getting married in august, and he moved into the house he and gini (whom i love by the way!) will be renting.  it's wonderful and crazy and a little sad that he's all grown up.  i'm very proud of him.  he's turned into such a great guy.
  • brandon won a ticket to the echo conference in dallas, texas this july.  he's very excited.  i'm excited for him.  we're all just very excited here at the gilliam household =)
