just in case you need a reminder

for one of my bsn classes, we have to do a community teaching project. i've been volunteering with the school nurse at the local high school, and next friday i'll be at the elementary school teaching about healthy habits and handwashing. considering all the people who have already been sick this season, i think it can't hurt to give everybody a little reminder :) i always loved sesame street!

lasting things

tell those rich in this world's wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever imagine - to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. if they do that, they'll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.

boys and their guns

right now brandon is downstairs playing some xbox game called call of duty. i'm hearing lots of gunshots and explosions. i can't ever really understand why this is so fun and entertaining for guys, but growing up with a brother and dad, i know my husband is not the only one who loves this kind of thing. in fact, i think that this is something i think most guys are just born with. i have proof.

july 1986, probably his 3rd birthday, and brandon looks pretty proud of his rambo gun :)

me and the holidays

  • i am one of those people most of you find annoying. i LOVE christmas music, and yes, i have already started listening to it.
  • i think the best feeling in the world is sitting in my grandma's warm kitchen talking to her, mom, and my aunts while hearing the guys watch football in the living room.
  • i'm looking forward to walking through the mall holding brandon's hand while christmas music plays
  • i've gotta watch all the classic christmas movies
  • come christmas eve and christmas, i'll be at the hospital with my little kiddos who are too sick to leave. although i'll miss being with b and family, it's nice to know i might can brighten someone's day.
  • i cannot wait to be in the carolinas for thanksgiving. enough said. :)
  • as far as food goes, the side dishes are everyone's favorite. the turkey...it's like scrambled eggs for breakfast: you have to have it there, but you really just want everything else that comes with it.
  • got to have colored lights on my tree. my real tree.
  • halloween - not a big fan.
  • just thinking about being with my family for thanksgiving and christmas almost makes me cry. nothing better in the world.
  • i love the holidays if you couldn't already tell :)

things

this may be a random thought post. you have been warned. :)

i painted our dining room this past week. due to the fact that our dc trip got cancelled due to the hubby not feeling to good, i decided i needed to make use of the few days off i had. a painter is coming next week to paint our kitchen and living room, but i figured i could save a little moola and do our dining room myself. easy enough right? painting is one of those things that always starts out fun and exciting, but leaves you sore, frustrated, and sick of trying to be so careful not to get paint on your carpet/furniture/clothes. add our 9ft ceilings to the mix and you're in for a real treat. anyway, i'm glad it's done. our rug under the dining room table is blue/brown/green squares, so i painted the walls blue. it's kind of a light steel blue that looks grey sometimes. i loved it, then hated it, and now it's growing on me again. i don't claim to be an interior decorator, but i'm hoping it looks okay. i'll post some pictures after next week when it's all done. i also hung a few pictures. kristina you would be proud.

work has not been bad overall. just busy as usual. sadly, as of this past week, since i started working here 18 kids have passed away. 18 kids. craziness. like i always say - don't take your family/friends for granted. you just can't.

i feel like fall was here for about 2 seconds and bam ... it's like wintery. if that's even a word. highs have been in the mid 40s. i haven't been out much though, because i've been working night shift and sleeping all day. the glamorous hours we nurses have :)

my best friend rachel's baby shower was this weekend. of course i couldn't go, becuase i was working and am 6 hrs away. sometimes i do get very sick of the fact that i miss all these family/friend get togethers. ugh! wish i could have been there rachel! hope you and abby got lots of great pink baby things!

i got this recipe from my piano teacher like 5 years ago for molassas spice cookies. i've been making them every year since. they are so freaking good! i made some this past weekend for a church thing tomorrow night, and i must say - they are yummy! they taste like fall. ahhh.

sorry this was so random. just getting some thoughts out of my overloaded brain.

organ donors

i read this on 6yearmed's blog. i thought it was too good not to share.

I know this guy who had a heart transplant a few years ago. Now he rides a motorcycle and refuses to wear a helmet. He says that motorcycle accidents lead to organ donors, and that's the only reason he's gotten to live this long.

I think that is really stupid and lovely all at once.

our saturday

today was my cousin eli's 5th birthday party. brandon and i got him a set of walkie talkies. fun right?

a kid from our church came a did a magic show for the kids. as you can see they had a great time, and all us adults had a great time laughing at how cute they all were.

afterwards brandon and i got to spend the day with my grandparents who came in town and paul and farrah. it's always good to be with family.

add sleeping in and being a little lazy to all that, and i'd say it was a good saturday!
