it's going to be a good couple of days

so i haven't been the best blogger lately. it's not that i don't want to; just been busy. working lots, school stuff, you know. anyway, we're here in north carolina for a few days, and i'm super excited. can't wait for some homemade cornbread stuffing! whoo hoo! :)

what's your favorite food on thanksgiving?

the coolest thing i learned today

today was my first day of PALS class (pediatric advanced life support). all those working in critical care areas are required to take PALS. i learned a lot of great things about codes and emergency situations and intubation, but the coolest thing i learned about was intra-osseous needles. they are needles that can be placed quickly in an emergency when we need access fast and can't get an IV. our instructor showed us this video of the inventor of the IO needle i believe, and an EMT volunteer. i could not have volunteered for that - yikes! if you have a weak stomach, you may not want to watch :)

oh, and don't worry, we only practiced on fake legs :)

beauty from ashes

one of the children i have had a chance to take care of in the past, a toddler that died a couple of months ago, is going on to inspire miracles. because of him, his parents held a bone marrow drive in his honor after he died. out of that bone marrow drive, a woman was contacted to be the donor for someone with leukemia. she is getting the chance to literally save someone's life. i am so blessed to take care of these precious children every day, and it never ceases to amaze me when i hear of miracles like this one. God really does bring beauty from the ashes.

if you haven't already, please consider getting on the bone marrow registry. you could be chance for a little boy or girl to grow up to live a long life, for a young man or woman not to leave their family without a father or a mother. all it takes is a swab of your cheek. it's easy. what better gift could you possibly imagine giving? go to www.marrow.org to find out how.
